However, solutions are difficult and require some hard and, perhaps, unpopular (at least to Congress) decisions. Even though, according to polls, the majority of Americans do not support cutting costs on most programs and do support eliminating subsidies for the richest corporations and increasing taxes on the wealthy, few conservatives will discuss these options. Instead, they want to balance the budget by cutting spending for social programs, such as Medicare. |
