Government Shutdown Averted; Reps Eye Obamacare (ContributorNetwork) Posted: 09 Apr 2011 02:08 PM PDT ContributorNetwork - COMMENTARY | A government shutdown was averted, but narrowly, and not for lack of trying. Representatives got $38.5 billion in spending cuts in exchange for status quo family planning agencies. Democrats also made Republicans agree to let up on some environmentally unfriendly policies. |
Budget Deal is the Latest of Numerous Compromises (ContributorNetwork) Posted: 09 Apr 2011 02:08 PM PDT ContributorNetwork - President Barack Obama, House Speaker John Boehner, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reached a budget deal late Friday night, where $38.5 billion more in budget cuts for fiscal year 2011 is coming if officially passed by Congress next week. That was short of the $61 billion Republicans and tea partiers in Congress had been fighting for. To see the leaders of this country come together in the 11th hour to avoid a government shutdown isn't the first time that compromise was needed in order to keep America from going off the abyss ... at least for the time being. |

Wisconsin Supreme Court Election Heads for Heated Ballot Review (ContributorNetwork) Posted: 09 Apr 2011 02:08 PM PDT ContributorNetwork - The Wisconsin Supreme Court election was always set to be under review. However, the election may become the biggest political lightning rod in Wisconsin yet, if that's even possible. The Supreme Court results between Justice David Prosser and JoAnne Kloppenburg seemed destined to go to a normal recount, with Kloppenburg as the stunning leader. But as per usual in this state, nothing is going to be normal in the next several weeks. |
I Wish Cutting Legislator Pay Would Help, but it Won't (ContributorNetwork) Posted: 09 Apr 2011 12:52 PM PDT ContributorNetwork - COMMENTARY | Members of Congress will make $165,200 this year, with the exception of the majority leaders and speaker of the house. A calculator and 15 seconds will tell you that the sum of salaries paid to federal legislators is $88,502,100. |
