The mostly poor population has been continuously assaulted by massive natural disasters and a cholera plague over the last year, leaving the island nation devastated. Infrastructure is broken at best and public services are only partially functioning. In the shadow of those events and their consequences, waves of protests and violence are sweeping the country. Partly to blame are the recent election results. |
